We currently operate ten mining complexes in three operating regions: Illinois Basin, Central Appalachia, and Northern Appalachia.
Because we produce a diverse range of steam coals with varying sulfur and heat contents, we are able to satisfy the broad range of specifications required by our customers. Of the coal we produced in 2011, 8.1 percent was low-sulfur coal (<1% sulfur content), 19.2 percent was medium-sulfur coal (1-2% sulfur content), and 72.7 percent was high-sulfur coal (>2% sulfur content).
